National Chemistry Week Celebration

During this year's activities, "Home: It's All Built on Chemistry," you will learn how to make paper out of chopped fiberglass instead of wood pulp and then see how it's used in roofing shingles, and how a thermostat functions with a mercury switch and a bi-metallic coil. You'll see how wood is treated to make it rot and termite resistant, how the Army uses chemistry to heat their MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) in the field, and see a simple kit for detecting the presence of lead in paints and ceramics.

Special activities are scheduled during regular Fort Discovery operating hours:
Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, Noon - 5 p.m.
FREE with paid General Admission.

For more information contact Bill Trammell at 706-821-0649 or trammellb@nscdiscovery.org.
